Be Obsessed With Improvement
Inspired by Eric Thomas, I’ve made it my mission to approach every day with the mindset of constant improvement. It may sound cliché or even a bit "woo-woo," but the truth is, this mindset simply works.
I’ve seen it firsthand with my two boys. I started explaining this mindset to them in simpler terms, and now, when they’re tackling problems—whether individually or together—they’re always asking, "How can we make this better?" I especially noticed it with Leo when it came to his homework and reading assignments recently as he has started to explode academically in school. That’s when I realized he got it.
I’m up at 4 AM most mornings because I love getting a head start on the day, especially when it’s quiet (although now, Coco is my little morning sidekick). As I brew my coffee, I ask myself, “How can I improve on yesterday? How can I attack my weaknesses, little by little?” Week after week of refining the areas that need attention has made a world of difference in my growth and success.
We all need to improve in every area of life. Life is tough, and it’s easy to fall into complacency—whether due to past successes or the lack of confidence to keep pushing forward. But no matter where you’re at, never let your tools—or your mindset—decay. Stagnation leads to atrophy, and before you know it, you’re left with nothing.
Your mind, just like your muscles, needs to be worked regularly in order to improve continuously. Don’t let yourself be the dull tool in the box. That’s not doing anyone any favors.
