Interview with Dr. Jason Wersland DC

Founder & Chief Wellness Officer of Therabody

Therabody is all about improving wellness. What does wellness mean to you, and how do you prioritize it in your own life?

I like to remind people when I am asked this question that wellness is a practice, and health is a state, and your daily wellness practice directly affects your health; mental and physical health. Wellness, to me, is about daily balance—mind, body, and spirit. It’s not just about how strong you are physically or how much recovery you’re doing; it’s about how you’re feeling overall. Are you present? Are you listening to your body? Are you connected to yourself? I prioritize wellness by making it part of my daily routine. Movement, recovery, nutrition, and mindset—they all work together. I use Therabody products because I know they work, but I also meditate, get outside, and take time to reset. Life moves fast, but if you’re not checking in with yourself, you’re missing the point.

What has been the most rewarding part of growing Therabody from a small idea into a global brand?

Seeing the impact. I invented Theragun out of necessity—I was in pain, and I needed a solution. What started as something for me turned into something that’s helped millions of people. Seeing an athlete, a musician, a mom, or a grandparent use our products and feel better—that’s what keeps me going. And honestly, building this brand with the right people, watching it take on a life of its own, continuing the mission with new and innovative products and still staying connected to why we started? That’s special.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs in the health-tech or wellness industry?

Be obsessed with the problem you’re solving, not just the product you’re selling. If you’re truly passionate about helping people, that energy is going to drive everything—your innovation, your partnerships, your brand. Surround yourself with the right people. Stay open to learning, and don’t be afraid to take risks. The best ideas don’t always come from the boardroom; they come from real experiences, real challenges, and real conversations.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received on your entrepreneurial journey?

Trust your gut. The best decisions I’ve made, the moments that have shaped Therabody, have all come from listening to that inner voice, even if it didn't seem like the right timing or just didn't make sense at the time. It’s easy to get caught up in what people think you should do, but at the end of the day, you have to stay true to your vision. And also—don’t take shortcuts. Build something real, something that actually helps people, and the rest will follow.
